Crisis Prevention Institute

The Fairfield County ESC provides crisis prevention training using The Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI). Founded in 1980, CPI's mission is to equip professionals with the tools and techniques needed to safely manage disruptive and potentially dangerous behaviors. CPI's training emphasizes safety, care, welfare, and security for all involved.

CPI's flagship program, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention®, is designed to teach participants how to defuse escalating situations using proven de-escalation strategies and, when necessary, safe physical interventions. This program is widely used across various sectors, including education, healthcare, social services, and security, ensuring that professionals can handle crises effectively and safely.

Training can be provided in both in-person and online formats, allowing flexibility for diverse learning preferences and schedules. Certified instructors lead the sessions, focusing on practical, hands-on techniques and real-world applications. Participants learn to assess risks, manage their own responses, and maintain a safer environment.

Beyond its core Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® program, CPI offers specialized training in areas such as workplace violence prevention, trauma-informed care, Mental Health and Autism Spectrum Disorders. These programs are tailored to meet the specific needs of different professional settings, providing relevant and applicable skills.
